January 16, 2008 – Denver, Colo. – Jabber, Inc. today announced that the U.S. Marine Corps has selected the Jabber Extensible Communications Platform™ (Jabber XCP™) as a comprehensive communication and collaboration solution to include instant messaging (IM), persistent group chat, presence capabilities, gateways for federation with Session Initiation Protocol/Session Initiation Protocol for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions (SIP/SIMPLE) and Internet Relay Chat (IRC) messaging services, and software development kits (SDKs) for custom development. As part of the agreement, Jabber will also provide professional services to include virtualization integration consultation, custom training, and architecture and engineering support.
The Marine Corps has procured a total of 283,000 licenses of Jabber XCP supporting active duty and reserve Marines, civilian employees, and contractors. The enterprise licensing agreement (ELA), valued at more than $3.4 million, will enable the Marine Corps to integrate Jabber XCP with new and legacy information systems over the next three years. Execution of this ELA will enable members of the Marine Corps to use Jabber XCP on tactical systems while deployed in support of military operations, or in garrison. The Marine Corps will also leverage Jabber Messenger™ for the Web, an ultra thin, zero-footprint web-client that is easily administered and uses minimal bandwidth. Jabber Messenger for the Web will enable alternative work arrangements and other work activities where a client-side application cannot, or should not, be installed on the user desktop.
“Jabber XCP’s secure, extensible, and interoperable presence and messaging platform delivers mission-critical communications regardless of protocol, device, or location,” said Paul Guerin, chief executive officer of Jabber. “Jabber’s ability to scale and incorporate with legacy architectures will allow the Marine Corps to successfully navigate the communications landscape today, tomorrow, and for years to come.”
