July 19, 2005 – Denver, Colo. – Jabber, Inc. today announced that Net Energy, an energy exchange based in Alberta, Canada, deployed the Jabber Extensible Communications Platform (Jabber XCP), to build a more efficient and sophisticated trading environment. According to Net Energy’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Gunn, traders within the market have gone from managing and executing one transaction at a time via traditional voice calls to conducting as many as 90 simultaneous text-based ‘conversational-transactions,’ facilitated by Jabber XCP. Conversational-transactions are financial deals initiated, negotiated, and completed within the context of an instant messaging (IM) or text conferencing session.
“In commodities markets, such as energy, the value of information has a rapidly diminishing half-life,” said Gunn. “Jabber XCP lets traders more efficiently manage and act upon multiple sources of time-sensitive information and provides us with the tools necessary for a secure, auditable, extensible, and highly efficient market that is the backbone of our business.”
Jabber XCP is a highly programmable presence and messaging framework capable of weaving applications, networks, devices, multi-media, and protocols together into a real-time information environment. Jabber XCP is built upon the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) approved by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as a standard for IM and presence technologies.
“Net Energy’s application of Jabber XCP is a very public example of how our technology is being deployed within undisclosed defense, intelligence, public safety, and financial organizations,” said Paul Guerin, chief executive officer of Jabber, Inc. “The similarity is in the time to value ratio of information, where Jabber XCP is used to deliver actionable information—at its peak value—to distributed decision makers who operate with near total awareness of their entire environment, be they traders, intelligence analysts, or soldiers on patrol.”
