DENVER, COLO. - May 27, 2003 - Jabber, Inc., the leading developer of open architecture for enterprise-and carrier-class presence-enabled communications, including instant messaging (IM), today announced that HP is now a worldwide distribution and development partner for Jabber, Inc. According to terms of the agreement, HP, already a Jabber, Inc. customer, recently completed the co-development of Jabber for the Microsoft Windows® 2000 and 2003 Enterprise Servers and HP-UX platforms, and will be jointly selling Jabber on these platforms as well as the existing Linux-based platform to HP’s worldwide customer base beginning in Q2 of this year. Along with joint development and resale of the Jabber, Inc. commercial server, HP will be offering end-to-end service to businesses for implementation and customization of Jabber, Inc.’s open and extensible XML-based enterprise messaging architecture.

According to the Gartner Group, instant messaging is increasingly driving enterprise communications. Beyond chat, businesses are integrating instant messaging into their enterprise applications such as enterprise directories and ERP systems.

HP’s move to utilize Jabber within its services organization follows closely on the heels of Jabber, Inc.’s own announcement that it has sold and installed more than 3 million commercial seat licenses to enterprises and service providers.

The Jabber, Inc. commercial product and its open source counterpart, Jabber.org, are based on the eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP), which ensures that all XMPP-compliant solutions can interoperate. XMPP achieved IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) Working Group status in October 2002 and is quickly moving towards full ratification.
