June 27, 2007 – Denver, CO. – Jabber, Inc., today announced that the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), a Department of Defense (DoD) combat support agency, has selected the Jabber Extensible Communications Platform™ (Jabber XCP™) for instant messaging (IM), low-bandwidth text chat, and persistent multi-user chat rooms for personnel across the DoD. The one year contract with two optional years was awarded to Carahsoft Technology Corp., a government IT solutions provider, and is valued at $22M. Carahsoft will work with Jabber, Adobe Systems, Inc., Science Applications International Corporation, and SRA International, Inc. for this contract.
DISA is responsible for the information technology capabilities of the DoD, including communications networks, hardware, software, and applications to serve the needs of the Secretary of Defense, Combatant Commanders, and other DoD components. This contract is a key part of DISA’s Net-Centric Enterprise Services (NCES) project to provide consistent collaboration and enterprise services throughout the DoD.
“In the DoD, presence-based, real-time information sharing is a critical component of net-centric collaboration,” said Craig P. Abod, president of Carahsoft. “We chose Jabber XCP because of its proven track record within the DoD combined with its fully compliant, XMPP-based, standardized approach to collaboration in distributed environments.”
Jabber XCP supports the open XMPP standard, which is mandated by the DoD for IM. With strengths in scalability, security, persistent multi-user chat, and the ability to federate with other XMPP services, Jabber XCP is an industry-leading solution for net-centric collaboration and other programs with real-time messaging and presence requirements.
“Jabber is pleased to expand our relationship with the DoD via this award for DISA’s NCES program,” said Paul Guerin, chief executive officer of Jabber. “With this deployment, the total number of concurrent users could exceed hundreds of thousands. This will further demonstrate Jabber XCP’s market leadership position as the platform of choice for highly secure, scalable, interoperable, and extensible presence and messaging applications.”
Jabber XCP is widely deployed throughout the Federal Government, including the DoD, Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Intelligence Community, and leading defense systems government contractors.
