The Power of Presence

Blueforce Development Corporation builds commercial, off-the-shelf software for national security organizations that enables presence and information sharing between people, sensors, and systems in first mile environments. To optimize bandwidth usage and accommodate real-time online and offline information sharing in highly ad-hoc, wide-area, and hostile data communications environments, Blueforce has standardized on the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) for their presence and messaging layer communications.

In the Blueforce system, each person, sensor, or service is a point-of-presence on the network that can be discovered and communicated with. During Strong Angel 3, a disaster response exercise sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense, Blueforce used the Jabber Extensible Communications Platform™ (Jabber XCP™) as its server for presence and messaging services, which provided secure routing of Blueforce data across civilian and military domains.

Information gathered by the sensors and people on the Blueforce network was intelligently routed amongst strategic and tactical decision makers, providing them with a superior view of the situation which enabled them to make informed decisions faster.
